Knizia seems to invade my Top 50 with even more games year after year. But I obviously do love venturing off into some Cole Wehrle designs as well 😆. Root and Pamir are both excellent games! Can't argue with you there.

Hey Jonathan,

Thanks for your insights! It does sound like Lancashire would appeal to me based on your description of it. I just need to bite the bullet and pick up a copy at this point 😆.

Hi Nick. The reason that you should play Brass: Lancashire is because it is the superior game of the two. Brum is a decent game but succumbs to the modern euro trend of reducing interaction and adding a lot of unnecessary stuff, in this case extra industries. Lancashire is so much leaner and the Port /Cotton Mill interplay is just so much more interesting than what is offered in Brum. The fact that beer is a resource you can hoard and use exclusively by not connecting it to your network just reduces the interaction in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, Brum is still way better than most modern euros but Lancashire is just better

Being a huge Knizia fan, this list makes a lot of sense to me. Oath at #1 is not only controversial but also it's just so different from most of the games on here. To each their own, of course. I love both Root and PP2 madly, but two independent games of Oath were enough for me. Good on you that you got to *twelve!*

Hello Holly,

Looking through my Top 50, there are a few games that come to mind which could work well with a blind player (and some accommodation from the group). These are much more social than visual in nature:

-Insider
-Wavelength

Also another one that isn't in my Top 50 but would work great: Trophies.

Hope that helps!

I'm kind of new to board games so this list was excellent help for us. One question I have is that four of us play board games but one of us is completely blind. We have to work to adapt games so we can all play and have fun. If you have any thoughts if appreciate them. I haven't seen it addressed anywhere else

That is an interesting topic, I agree!

The majority of those games remain in my collection and in my Top 100. In most cases, they were simply crowded out of my Top 50 by games that slightly edged them out. The notable exceptions to that would be:

Cosmic Frog - I sold this game from my collection. It's too much of a pain to teach to newcomers, takes too long to play with newcomers, and half the time newcomers don't like it 😆. I'd happily play it with a group that loves it and knows what they are doing.

Concordia - I still own and enjoy this one, but I'm also a bit burned out on it. I've probably played it over 10 times now, and the last few plays have just started to feel very similar — like my strategy hasn't changed much and opponent actions don't affect my plans much.

Beyond the Sun - I still really enjoy this one too, but my last couple plays have ended with somewhat unsatisfying results. I felt like I had played a great game, but then somebody else just combo-d into a far better tech track and they left everyone else in the dust and there was nothing we could do to stop them.

Thanks for the list, I really enjoyed reading it! I'd love to hear or read you discuss why the following games from your 2021 list fell off the 2022 list, especially considering some of them were pretty highly ranked! Were they simply crowded out by better games? Didn't hold up to repeated plays? Never made it off the shelf?

Beyond the Sun
